There are two fun events happening this week. The Annual Savin Rock Fireworks Dinner raises funds for our fantastic fireworks display each summer. It is this Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 at the Savin Rock Conference Center. I love this event because it’s one big party. There’s a giant buffet and all of the best restaurants are there (in no particular order) – Lorenzo’s, Biagetti’s, Oyster River Tavern, Peschell’s, Gabrielle’s, Cappetta’s, Savin Rock Roasting Company, Fresco’s, Elm Dinner, Charlie’s Cupcakes, Texas Roadhouse, Duffy’s, Randall’s, Alvie’s Cafe, Giaquinto’s, Only the Best, Full Circle Pizza, and even Paul and Joanne from the old Lucibello’s will be bringing something tasty!
Many of these restaurant’s step up to the plate time and time again to support all of the various causes going on in this city and it’s heartwarming to see. Some establishments – like Jimmy’s, Turks, and Chick’s for example – do very little for our community. I just don’t understand it. Lending a helping hand is good for business. A big “Thank You!” to all the restaurants participating in this event!
And if the food itself isn’t enough, there will be two excellent singers for your entertainment – Tony Riccio and Michael Rea. I have heard both sing at Biagetti’s from time to time and they are absolutely wonderful.
West Haven has some of the best fireworks around. If you enjoy the fireworks and go to see them every year like I do, I hope you will make a point of attending this event. Tickets are $20, kids 8 and under are $5. Be sure to BYOB if you are so inclined. For tickets, give Natalie DeRosa a call at 203-915-4093. You can get tickets at the door, too, but Natalie would prefer it if you could get tickets beforehand if at all possible. I hope to see you there!
On Saturday, June 16, from 3pm to round about 10pm, Johnny’s Grille at 437 Campbell Avenue will be hosting its first annual Toga* party. This event will benefit firefighters and nurses – specifically the Leary Firefighter Foundation and the Connecticut Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses. For just $20 you get all the Miller Lite draft beer you can responsibly drink, food, and big belly laughs courtesy of the four or five comedians that will be performing. There will also be a band. Sounds like an awesome Saturday to me! So go, have fun, and remember it’s a toga party – not an orgy!
Of course I am bummed I can’t go. I’ve always wanted to wear a toga and just never had the right occasion. Well I guess there’s always Halloween – or next year at Johnny’s!
*togas are optional, but if you don’t wear a toga, please do wear something ;)
